Traveling Solo Doesn’t Have to Mean Traveling Alone

When you’re ready, traveling in widowhood can be a powerful gateway to embracing new life experiences, creating new friends and community, and experiencing meaningful personal growth.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch my video below, which shares some of my experiences about traveling in widowhood. I’ve traveled alone (getting on a plane by myself and going somewhere I’ve never been before), and I’ve traveled with a number of different tour companies, including EF Go Ahead Tours.

In the past, before I started traveling with EF Go Ahead Tours, I had some tour group experiences where I felt that the “solo” aspect was an afterthought, and that the trips weren’t carefully considered and planned for someone traveling without a companion.

Now when I want to travel as part of a group, the solo trips from EF Go Ahead Tours are my first choice, and they’ve been a great fit for me. The group size is perfect for me (typically, 14 to 28 travelers) and everything is thoughtfully designed for solo travelers — including a private room and truly special curated activities that weren’t designed just for couples. Plus plenty of opportunities to do my own thing if I choose to.

Although their solo trips aren’t just for widows, I’ve met many widows (and widowers) when traveling with EF Go Ahead Tours. On my most recent trip with them, I was 1 of 7 widows in our group. It was incredibly meaningful to travel and bond with others who truly “got” my emotions (both highs and lows) while traveling without my husband. These connections have been extremely meaningful to me, and I’ve remained in touch with many of the amazing widows I’ve met on these trips.

I wanted to take a moment to tell you why Widow University recommends EF Go Ahead Tours for solo travelers. It’s not just because we’ll receive a commission if you purchase a trip using a link on this page. Although commissions are a huge help in paying the operating expenses for our site, we recommend EF Go Ahead Tours because they’re a family-owned company committed to creating safe, authentic, life-changing travel experiences for solo travelers.

Traveling in Widowhood

Widow University founder Laurie Rich shares some of her experiences about traveling in widowhood.

After my husband died, it was more than a year before I was ready to even consider traveling without him. And even then, it was a trip for business.

It was more than 3 years after my husband’s death that I felt ready to go on a trip that was a vacation, just for myself.
